How to Substitute Silver Wire with Silver Foil. Recently I ran out of 30ga .999 pure silver wire and decided to try an idea. I was happy with the results. Maybe you will be too.

Last weekend, I spent some time with three terrific lampworkers …JV, MP and BJG. Their company was so enjoyable, and I left feeling inspired from everything shared.

After I made these little cylinders, I kept them in a box on my work table. One day after they had been on my desk for a few weeks, I accidentally knocked over another box and a collection of Japanese Seed beads fell in beside the Raku cylinders. At first I was [...]

Did you read my post from August 1st?… Traveling Lampwork Bead Show which contains a reference to the note that I found with the bead pictured. The note reads ’silver foil on ivory base, dark brown fused area is dark topaz, blue and green fused area is pale topaz (same glass as raised [...]

Sometimes whenever I get a few free minutes during my day, I’ll google lampwork or “lampwork beads” and tunnel over a few pages, then pick a random site. Today I discovered Rebecca Werner’s [...]

Every year the ISGB has an event (The Gathering) which draws beakmakers from all over the world. This year it was in Miami, FL. Marilyn Peraza was there too, and she’ll be publishing an article in the next issue of The Annealer Magazine.

These earrings can be made with two or more different color discs. If you don’t have two different colors, you can etch one disc of each pair for an interesting contrast. Here I have used Transparent Medium Blue (591054).
I find that when I close the large jump rings, if I close [...]

What a beauty! The Olivine, Topaz & Dark Lilac Swarovski Crystal complement the Raku lampwork beads nicely. The smaller beads on the dangle are Miyuki. The rest of the beads and spacers are sterling silver.

This is one of the first big cylinder shaped glass beads I ever made, and it took me forever to get it balanced and even. Then I had to go and add stringers which got everything out of whack again, but not too much. I do prefer getting a good shape first, [...]

After I learned how to make a decent disc bead, I experimented with squaring them. The process involves making a disk bead and letting it cool. Heat one edge (not too much, tho) and lightly press the hot edge onto a flat graphite or brass surface. This will begin to flatten [...]

I found a note concerning this bead last night. The note reads ’silver foil on ivory base, dark brown fused area is dark topaz, blue and green fused area is pale topaz (same glass as raised dots). I have to try this again. The lampwork spacers on either end are Avocado [...]

I used Effetre (Moretti) Opaque Pea Green (591212) and Opaque Medium Lemon Yellow (591408) to make these little flat square lampwork beads.

This lampwork bead has a Effetre (Moretti) white base (591204). The top is encased with Effetre (Moretti) dark blue (591056) and the bottom is encased with a green which I have had for a few years and am not sure where/what it is, except that it’s COE 104. It’s very similar to [...]

This is another bead from last year. My plan was to create a pendant with small sterling silver sea shells and other ocean related charms dangling from the bottom, along with some Swarovski Crystal beads. I think I will be moving this to the top of my ToDo list.
This lampwork bead was [...]

I spent some time at the torch yesterday casing and trying out some new color combos. I wrapped the base with silver foil and used several blues, greens and browns and intense black stringers before encasing it. I shaped this bead using a graphic paddle marver.
